This paper deals with intelligent case retrieval system for finite element analysis (FEA) and with a methodology of case learning for query module. Through the development of case database on the FEA input model and of retrieval engine, the associative transformation between query words and regularized code options have been investigated and derived from case learning with the hierarchical neural network model, for the purpose of pertinent indexing to case files. Using the teaching patterns, produced by empirical filtering, actual query menus based on the option space could be constructed.
