Abstract
An analytical formula is deduced concering the direction of movement of coupler point versus the fixed link and moving point on the poleray versus poletangent using infinitesmal Burmester theory. Thus, a new method of synthesis for 4-bar straight-line mechanisms is advanced out of practical necessity. Through this design method, the author finds shortcomings with classioal Chehyshev mechanisms; and a new proportion of dimensions for 4-bar straight-line meohanisms is put forwards.
