Abstract

This work presents a unified method for the kinematic synthesis of mechanical-advantage function-generating mechanisms. These devices produce a specified nonlinear force or torque as a function of input position with resisting energy supplied to the mechanism from an external energy storage device such as a spring or load weight. This work differs from most past work in that the positions of the link carrying the external resisting load need not he specified.
