The Mechanical Engineering Department of the Grove School of Engineering at The City College of New York is seeking a Laboratory Director specializing in the area of mechatronics, with proficiency in microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino), scientific instrument based data acquisition systems, both hardware and software (e.g., National Instruments with LabVIEW and Matlab with data acquisition toolbox), and/or programmable-logic controllers (e.g., Allen-Bradley). A master's degree or higher in mechanical or electrical engineering and at least two years of hands-on industrial and/or educational experience using the afore-mentioned equipment/software are required.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Perform supervisory and/or complex technical functions in Fundamental and Applied Mechatronics Laboratories in support of coursework, including mechatronics-related Senior Design Projects and design competitions.
  • Help the instructors and/or course-coordinating faculty in developing and conducting the laboratory and hands-on project sessions;
  • Maintain, fabricate, modify, and repair equipment;
  • Determine equipment requirements and prepare purchase specifications;
  • Train and supervise student assistants and other laboratory staff;
  • Manage the set-up, maintenance and organization of the two Mechatronics laboratories;
  • Maintain safety and hygiene standards;
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Regular/Temporary: Temporary (2 years, Year 3: optional)

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida invites applications for one 12 month non-tenure track position at the Instructor level starting August 2017. The position requires an earned doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field with preference to relevant experience. Prior teaching experience and expertise facilitating engineering design projects and programming is desired. The position requires a strong interest in teaching, supervision of student design projects, and developing new undergraduate mechanical engineering laboratory experiments. The University of South Florida System is a high-impact, global research system dedicated to student success. The Department has 20 faculty members and offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering.
